Diversity and globalization: cultural networks

The conservation of linguistic diversity seems to be a polemic subject, even in the societies which are apologizing that project officially. Probably that occurs, because the question of language is frequently connected with the conception of nation(s).

On the other hand, in our times of ongoing globalization, all countries around the world, just by following the own interests, show the tendency of unifying their efforts in order to create social, economic and technological transformations that lead to a dynamic process of increasing communication and interdependence.

This patchwork of fusions, which impulse the development of enterprises and commerce, is characterized by open access to the labor and financial markets, goods and services. The danger of provoking a gap of economic, social or territorial conditions, in one word, of an unequal development, is forced by terms of competition and security, which will not bring happiness to all participants at each moment. As a consequence, a lot of societies, ethnic groups and nations, at any level, are opting for less intercommunication nowadays: America First, Brexit, Catalunya més que mai and so on. But who, if not the intermediators of the language(s), which are working on the cohesion inside a specific language community as well as, at an inter- and multicultural level, on the relations of different languages/cultures, will have the great challenge of reconciling the two opposite tendencies in the present:  To more idiosyncrasy on one side and to more cosmopolitism on the other one.

The VII International Congress liLETRAd 2020 will be held in the Faculty of Philology at the University of Seville. As a plurilingual center of well-known prestige it seems to be the ideal place to support the dialog between different languages and cultures (Portuguese, English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, classical and indigenous languages) where literature, language and translation are a reality.

Fundamentally, this congress is aimed at university teachers, academics, translators, writers, long and short film directors, and bound for any people interested in teaching skills and interchange, precedents from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. In this edition VII of liLETRAd we propose a literary and film concourse. The deadline for the presentation of works is February 20th, 2020. Further information here.
