Applications are invited for two new graduate programs in Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada)

MA IN APPLIED LINGUISTICS
MA in Applied Linguistics is a two-year program requiring the completion of 5 courses plus a research thesis.
Faculty research includes general and applied linguistics, empirical linguistics, computer assisted language learning, corpus linguistics, language teaching and language acquisition, language and culture interactions, phonetics, language documentation, morphology, syntax, computational linguistics, and sociolinguistics. Applications are welcome addressing the above areas as well as other areas of applied linguistics.
Graduate students pursue original research on national and minority languages and linguocultures of Saskatchewan and Canada, as well as research on languages and language teaching throughout the world. Examples of recent topics by graduate students include extracurricular activities in university language classes, language attitudes of Ukrainian speakers in Saskatchewan, maintenance of Mandarin Chinese and Russian in the families of immigrants in Saskatchewan, Doukhobor language and culture, language attitudes and ethnic identity of Iranian immigrants in Saskatchewan, non-verbal communication in aquatic environments,  discourse analysis of texts describing depression, language requirements of international students in Saskatchewan, euphemisms in medical communication, and non-verbal communication tools in ESL classrooms.
Scholarships
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships from their own countries and from the University of Saskatchewan http://https://www.usask.ca/cgsr/funding/international.php.  For students with no other financing, a limited number of Graduate Teaching Fellowships (up to $8,000) and small scholarships ($1,000-5,000) may be available from the Department (allocated depending on the academic value of the application, grade average, as well as on the order of received applications).
Admissions
Applications for the program of study starting on September 1, 2016, should be made by February 1, 2016.
First, submit a short 2-5 pages research project proposal to v.makarova@usask.ca.  The research proposal should be submitted by January 15, 2016. Then apply online at http://https://www.usask.ca/cgsr/grad_programs/programs/MAL.php
